Maintenance Technician

Jankow Companies is currently seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician to join our growing team! Under the direction of the Head of Property Maintenance, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance activities at the assigned property or properties. The Maintenance Technician will achieve success by (1) supporting the Property Manager, (2) ensuring high quality and timely completion of service requests, (3) professionally communicating with and interacting with all stakeholders, (4) maintaining strong property performance through preventative and corrective maintenance including vendor management, and (5) ensuring compliance with company and regulatory policies incorporating industry best practices.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to and resolve resident/tenant service requests promptly

  • Manage and complete vacant unit make-ready processes

  • Inspect buildings and grounds daily for cleanliness & proper operation of building systems

  • Supplement 3rd party cleaning provider's services between cleanings as needed, conduct emergency cleanups as needed

  • Supplement 3rd party grounds crews for landscaping, snow shoveling and salting, etc. as needed

  • Perform daily dumpster area checks and cleanups

  • Effectively and professionally communicate with coworkers, 3rd party vendors, and residents

  • Oversee work performed by outside contractors as necessary

  • Perform miscellaneous carpentry, painting, and related repair and maintenance work as necessary

  • Complete basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, preventative maintenance, and related repairs as necessary

  • Completes required documentation for completed work, including inspection forms, logs, and RealPage documentation

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Detail and quality-oriented, and highly organized

  • Strong customer service skills, time management, prioritization skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical, appliance, HVAC, and carpentry repair and maintenance tasks

  • Understanding of general safety practices

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn new technologies and software including RealPage Facilities, Microsoft Word, Email, and Microsoft Teams

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis.

  • Ability to spend up to 100% of work time standing or moving about all areas within Jankow Companies properties. Physical activities include but are not limited to bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing and working on ladders, lifting/carrying objects, finger dexterity, writing, and/or shoveling, and/or reaching on a frequent basis.

  • Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed; the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods is required. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day, and reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist, or lifting as required.

  • Proper lifting and safety techniques are required.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous maintenance and/or related experience required

  • Valid unrestricted NYS Driver License & reliable transportation

  • Provide own set of basic hand tools

  • Availability to work occasional overtime

  • On-call availability for maintenance emergencies outside of scheduled work shifts
